More and more families are headed North to the Biscayne Suburbs to settle down, plant some roots and raise a family. As moms ourselves, we appreciate the importance of nearby family friendly activities such as dining, however we are not interested in sacrificing quality, style or ambiance. We want establishments that offer delicious, wholesome and reasonably priced food for the whole family! It almost seems as though a new restaurant or concept opens daily in the Biscayne Suburbs and we are determined to help keep these mom and pop stops alive and kicking for us all to enjoy. We are so over the days of that vacant space becoming yet another Subway, Einstein bagels or Jamba Juice. Give us something new!
That time of day arrives, the craziness begins to escalate, hunger strikes and all eyes point to mom. We’re hungry! We’ve all had that awful experience of an uncomfortable eye roll from the table to the left, or the abnormally loud sigh from a fellow patron that would like to eat in peace. Well, if it hasn’t happened to you yet, it will! Us parents like to avoid it at all costs. So, we’ve compiled some great restaurant options all along the Biscayne corridor that your kids will be welcomed with open arms, plenty of napkins and maybe even toys to keep the little ones busy!
First stop, Cream Parlor. A cozy and creative space that is family owned and operated. An eclectic collaboration of vintage and Canadian inspired antiques dress the walls and strike your curiosities as you help yourself to a glass of water. Choose from either a mason jar or coffee mug with a funny saying to make you chuckle. As you pass a counter full of homemade sweets and ice cream and an old church pew, you’ll stumble upon a children’s corner full of books and toys to help yourself. We always choose to sit outside in the completely secure and private back patio so mom can enjoy a cup of tea and the kids can play and take in the fresh air as the food is prepared. After curbing your hunger with some of their very unique and delicious dishes, help yourself to some unicorn poop ice cream for desert. It is a must visit for sure!
Just down the street, tucked away in the Ironside plaza, is Ironside Kitchen Pizza & Coffee Co. The most authentic Neapolitan pizza in town! The entire space is full of tradesman, artists and creators. Once you enter through the raised gardens of tomato plants, you are greeted by two large concrete art installations that are colorful and inviting. You know you are in for a treat. Al fresco dining under the stars and strings of bistro lights encourages an experience rather than a meal. The funky oversized lawn furniture offers a great playground for hide and seek and the occasional train that rolls on through reminds you of another time for a moment. For a quick dinner on a Monday or a lunch that turns into an afternoon of exploration, Ironside is where it’s at.
Lastly, just a few minutes further South on the border of Midtown and Wynwood area is The Wynwood Yard. This place is heaven for a child. There are several food trucks situated on the property offering a wide variety of fare such as Asian, Brazilian and vegan to name a few, you can catch a live band or performance while you dine on picnic tables or stumble upon a yoga class and indulge in some meditation. Stroll through their raised bed organic garden and allow the imaginations to wander. It’s a great spot to gather with friends or just enjoy some quality family time.
